‘As a general rule, family and friends have a tendency to take the ‘edge’ out of me by  attempting to make sense of my creativity.’

Of course they would say this is rubbish, but predominantly, it’s their inward reactions they so desperately try to conceal that effect me the most.

Every word written by myself is analysed for signs of mental disturbance!

It’s purely a protective instinct on their part, but what’s ‘misunderstood’ is the intent.

Artistry is all about reflection.

Reflection of select ‘snippets of thought’ circumnavigating one’s mind, splayed all over a blank page in a completely disorderly fashion for all to savour.

It is almost never,  a direct reflection of ones permanent state of mind.

Non-artistry is keeping those thoughts locked in the safety of ones private little head-where they remain hidden from the world, and not shared in an outpouring of tangled, bitter and twisted, dangerously personal prose which acts to either delight or destruct.

Personally, when writing, I have less angst exposing my vulnerabilities to those who don’t know me.

…and it saves me having to scribble

“Mum, this is not a suicide note!” –at the conclusion of my word fest!

  1. “It is almost never a direct reflection of ones permanent state of mind.” Very interesting point, I think there is a lot of truth to that for many creative personalities. Often, they need to process emotions through their chosen medium (writing, painting… whatever it might be) and it’s that process itself that centers them again, so that the very emotion they expressed is released through the creative process.

  2. WOW, an interesting concept! So writing random thoughts is like the Artist who dips his brush into different tins of different coloured paint? Is your memory the collection of paint tins? Or is it your imagination?
